Round One
Faulkner
Kohler
Althausen
Lichtenberg
Braun
A bit of babble
This challenge is definitely not for the faint of heart; I started in June, wore myself out with too much enthusiasm, and then didn't get back to it until August where I got acquainted properly for the first time with the Braun family, meanwhile I forgot what happened with the others, but hey, isn't that what pictures are for? *innocent* Basically - this is the sort of challenge to be eased into. If you like repetitive (seriously repetitive!) style of play then go for it, otherwise I recommend playing a bit at a time in between other challenges or other styles of game play.
I shall explain what happened throughout the first round as follows -
I created a very simple basic lot with the smallest lot size (2x2) following the rules as close as possible, which I then saved into my lot bin and now use as a template for all other lots. From attempting this challenge previously (I lost it along with the rest of my HD to a nasty virus) I found that sims get overheated very easily, and with summer being the consecutive season they barely come out of it enough to eat let alone do work in the garden, so I created a small 4x4 room with a cheap double bed so that they can sleep inside out of the heat - I notice though if their temp bar is anything above green they will still overheat in bed and wake up to pass out from heat exhaustion, so make sure they are in the green; to combat this I have them nap inside on a bench until they are green and then put them to bed, but that's for later. I play with the walls down as low as possible to pretend that they don't have any cover, but logically neanderthals did take shelter some place so it's not completely unrealistic (like using a fire extinguisher, shower, grill, pesticide etc. *tongue in cheek*). I did forget though about the five plot rule (I hate fruit trees, so annoying and not worth a lot of money even at full price) so I have four plots of five from the start - there's not much else to do except fish and garden. I wonder what else I did... *has to think about it now*
I started off with a sink for sponge bathing, but found that it takes forever, doesn't completely clean them, and every other hour they seem to want to go back to wash, also, with them using it so much it's constantly breaking, which gets very tiring after a while so I ended up ditching the sink. I exchanged it for the uni-shower which I am pretending is a waterfall or some other water source (yes! this game requires a lot of imagination at this stage unless you have incredible CC, which btw, I hear there is a waterfall shower floating around there in CC land somewhere so good luck if you can find it!). I have a bucket for a toilet, which I forget where that came from, I think it was modthesims or thesimresource =/ sorry, I know, I should write this stuff down somewhere *would totally lose it anyway*. Of course taking away the sink means the sims will just throw their rubbish in the giant trash can out front - joyful, what a waste of useful rubbish! So I got them a bin (pretend, people, pretend!) and a compost bin, so now I can gradually save money on compost (think about it - what's more unbelievable - a pile of waste being used for a garden or a bagful of bought compost hmm?).
After all this I then discovered sims were still overheating too often - and as Brunilda proved, if a sim isn't in good health to start with overheating can cause death, and you never know when grimmie doesn't want to give a sim back, or a family sim doesn't want to get there in time. Of course, when I have a zillion sims creating chaos I won't mind a few overheating to keep the families smaller, but for now I'm JUST starting and want to keep them alive for a few rounds yeah? Ok, glad you're with me (re-starting this type of challenge more than once will take all the fun out of it and I really want to do this >_<). So - I built up another house around the kitchen/dining area so they can eat their meals inside out of the heat; and while I was at it made a nursery and an extra room for impending kiddies. I do realise this is a "challenge" therefore is not supposed to be "easy" but you sit and watch your sims constantly near death, whining about the heat, or hunger, or being dirty, or peeing themselves, etc etc, and see how long you last =/ It's still interesting and they do still complain on occasion, they just do other things too now - like actually planting a garden, go figure.
Wow, what else did I do? I'm almost through round 2 now so it's hard trying to remember as I've made a few changes, which I will talk about in that section. Ah, random stuff - because I was lazy I put all the girls in the same dress (it's made by pooklet, google her, she's the best) and the guys in whatever, simply because they are all going to waltz around in their underwear (no caveman CC sorry) some of the underwear actually looks like fur or some other animal skin so it's all right, and the girls all wear the same underwear/bathing suit (comes up in both sections) which is CC from parsimonious. - since I mention it; a lot of my CC is from parsimonious, with just a few from modthesims or thesimresource (very little in fact) and from pooklet (Magdalena, Lisbet, and Gerhard's hair, the CC skin tones that all couples have, and I think Oda's hair too but now I can't remember @__@)
I think that was pretty much it for Round 1; the couples all fished, worked in the garden, passed out, talked with the neighbours, oh and the "digging for treasure" I did but not to sell items - I did that for bones and rocks for the landscape and all other items I have kept in their inventory (not much really) which will die with them most likely.
Apart from the occasional death or sim meltdown there isn't a lot happening, maybe I play with too much of a God-hand (what else is there to do?) but if it seems too immense a task this is 1) not the challenge for you, or 2) if you're curious and really want to give it a try, trust me that it gets more interesting from round 2 onwards; I'm not sure how long that would last, but hey, it's building a really good solid foundation for the second stage which I am extremely looking forward to. This challenge is truly epic, it's something I'm sure I'll leave just as regularly as I return to it because I'm just so curious to see what happens from one generation (and stage) to the next. Trying to upload this for others to see is also a challenge @__@ I wonder how long that will last.
For now, until round 2~
